Activities in Europe

The AHRC is committed to raising awareness of collaborative activities and opportunities around Europe. Existing opportunities and activities within Europe include the following areas:

UK/Netherlands Research Networking and Exchange call: The AHRC and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) are pleased to announce a new funding opportunity for UK and Dutch researchers. Joint applications for up to €40,000 can be submitted to fund networking or exchange activities relating to two thematic areas.

Money Follows Researcher: infomation for researchers who move countries who can now take with them the remainder of a current grant.

Seventh Framework Programme: The European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) has now been launched and will last from 2007-2013.

European Science Foundation: AHRC, along with the other UK Research Councils, the Royal Society and the British Academy, is a subscribing UK member organisation of the European Foundation (ESF).

EUROCORES/EUROBABEL: The European Collaborative Research Scheme provides large-scale project funding for transnational teams of researchers.

HERA: Humanities in the European Research Area is a partnership between sixteen Humanities Research Councils across Europe and the European Science Foundation.

Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social SciencesSupporting networking and workshops activities between partners in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft of the Federal Republic of Germany (DFG): Facilitating the joint funding and peer review of German and UK collaborative research.

New opportunities for European Project Funding

A new call has been announced by the European Commission’s Socio-Economic and Humanities (SSH) Committee for collaborative research project to address nearly 30 challenges and topics. The areas identified are wide ranging from Understanding Creativity to Integration in South East Asia and the future of Social Sciences and Humanities. The call has a total budget of € 39 000 000 and applications must be submitted by 2nd February 2012.

The call states that Humanities is welcomed across all areas – the contents covers a wide variety of themes including 
• Unveiling creativity for innovation in Europe
• Social innovation against inequalities
• New types of offence in a globalised world: the case of environmental crime
• Making longevity an asset for economic and social development
• Understanding disabilities in evolving societies
• National and regional integration in South East Asia
• Human rights in the EU external relations and internal policies
• Social changes and political transformations in the Arab world
• Exercising EU citizenship: removing barriers
• Dealing with diversity and cohesion: the case of the Roma in the European Union
• Enlargement and the integration capacity of the EU: past experience and future prospects
• The future of Social Sciences and Humanities in the context of the European Research Area
