Knowledge Exchange

AHRC operates in an environment where Knowledge Exchange (KE) and innovation command an elevated status within government policy frameworks. Arts and humanities research is increasingly recognised by government as a true force in stimulating innovation particularly within the emerging creative and knowledge economies.

Expressions of Interest - This call has now closed

Expressions of Interest for Knowledge Exchange (KE) Hubs in the Creative Economy (pdf 82kb). AHRC KE Hubs present a unique opportunity for Research Organisations already working in strategic partnerships with creative businesses and cultural organisations to strengthen and diversify their collaborative research activities, build new partnerships in the creative economy and increase the number of arts and humanities researchers actively engaged in research-based knowledge exchange.

Knowledge Exchange Hubs FAQ's (pdf 105kb)

We held two Town Meetings for prospective applicants, their potential private, public and/or third sector partners, other funding agencies and stakeholders interested in learning more about this initiative. This was a prime opportunity to hear further about AHRC’s Creative Economy strategy, our ambitions for KE Hubs and to ask any related questions before submitting an Expression of Interest. Both events comprised of a two hour meeting including presentations from senior AHRC staff and time for questions followed by refreshments and an opportunity to meet fellow attendees.

Some other KE Funding Opportunities

Policy Fellowships

From time to time opportunities for Public Policy Fellowships are offered for early career academics to work within a variety of organisations and public bodies on policy relevant issues. Please check our funding opportunities page.

AHRC is committed to supporting innovative knowledge exchange activity across its portfolio and the KE Team  are happy to discuss options with potential applicants. AHRC Research Grant, Fellowship and Research Networking schemes as well as all new strategic initiatives offer significant opportunities for undertaking knowledge exchange.

AHRC's KE Strategy

The high quality of the research base across AHRC's large subject domain offers a rich and powerful source of partnership opportunity for a wide range of user sectors and communities. This is the AHRC's distinctiveness (Unique Selling Point -USP) in KE.

The AHRC aims to create opportunities and incentives that increase the flow, value and impact of world class arts and humanities research from academia to wider non-academic, public and private sectors, and to embed a culture of KE across all its programmes, especially research grants.

Details of our new strategy for knowledge exchange will be published in due course but please see our newly launched AHRC Delivery Plan 2011-15 (pdf 1810kb) for context.
