Research We've Funded

Every year we offer around 700 new research awards and 1,500 postgraduate awards totaling over £60m. So where does the money go?

Arts and humanities play a vital role in the well-being of our economy. With few major corporations or multinational companies supporting research in this area, the funding we provide is essential if we are, as a nation, to develop our understanding of these creative industries and their significance in today's society.

Funding Initiatives

Many of the projects we have funded fall within one of our funding initiatives. These initiatives address issues that we feel are best supported by concentrated and coherent funding. These include Religion and Society, Science and Heritage and Beyond Text.

Impact

The AHRC has an important role to play in articulating the full range of economic, social and cultural impacts and benefits derived from arts and humanities research. Read about impact, our approach to impact, case studies focusing on the impact of projects, sector interaction studies and a study into the career paths of our postgraduate award holders.

Innovation

Arts and Humanities Research and Innovation (232kb), a collaborative paper by the AHRC and NESTA, considers ways in which arts and humanities research contributes to the UK innovation system.  The main focus is on the distinctive role and nature of the arts and humanities in the knowledge creation process, and on how that knowledge is utilised by society.  The paper also considers the institutional role the AHRC plays as a funder and as an intermediary in the innovation system.
