Digital Economy is an RCUK cross-research council programme involving AHRC, EPSRC, ESRC and MRC.
The Digital Economy Programme is aimed at providing capability in the early adoption of information technologies by business, government and society and focuses on the transformational effect that these technologies can have.
The Digital Economy will bring together the underpinning technologies, with all the elements required to deliver transformation. Challenges in the Digital Economy will require multi-disciplinary input across a broad spectrum of subjects including researchers from the arts and humanites.
Key to developing the Digital Economy is the creation of a new cohort of researchers who have a strong research capability, but also an understanding of user needs and the social and economic implications of their research.
Wiki
Wiki to discuss capital (equipment, facilities, infrastructure) needs for research using new digital and media technologies.
As a part of developing the RCUK Digital Economy Programme the AHRC, in collaboration with the EPSRC, have commissioned a scoping study to review the capital (equipment, facilities, infrastructure) needs to support leading edge research using new digital and related media technologies and whether there are significant gaps or unmet needs which require investment by the Research Councils. There is now a public wiki available to all interested parties which will steer the final report project wiki. For further details or to contribute to the wiki please visit:

Past Events/Calls
Designing Effective Research Spaces: 7-9 July 2009
The Digital Economy Programme, in conjunction with AHRC and the British Library IDEAS Factory Sandpit focussed on the interaction between research practices, the physical environment and Digital Economy. The aim of the sandpit was to bring together participants from a wide range of disciplines to develop a fresh and innovative approach to generating high-quality research programmes which offer the potential for a significant step towards addressing challenges in this area. Please EPSRC website for details.
Design in the Digital World: Ideas Factory Sandpit
In December 2008 a 5-day sandpit event was held to explore future developments in the Digital Economy (DE) and its impact on design processes. The focus of the sandpit was on the requirements of the user of the technology, rather than those of the designer. The state of knowledge in this area demands an innovative and multidisciplinary approach. Please see the EPSRC website for details.
