The AHRC and the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to support networking and workshops activities between partners in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
Under this agreement, AHRC and IRCHSS will fund proposals involving applicants based in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. Applicants from the Republic of Ireland and from the UK must satisfy the eligibility criteria of IRCHSS and AHRC respectively.
The deadline for 2008 has now passed
This arrangement forms part of a wider IRCHSS Research Development Initative and proposals to the AHRC/IRCHSS bi-lateral agreement fall under Strand 4 of the initative.
Strand 4 is primarily aimed at stimulating research which may cross national boundaries and involve internationally collaborative teams. Both Councils welcome single disciplinary, cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary applications which, while primarily in the humanities, may overlap with other disciplines.
Costing - Applications should clearly differentiate the cost to be incurred by teams based in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. Costs to be incurred by applicants based in the Republic of Ireland and costs to be incurred in the UK must be compatible with existing financial practices pertinent to IRCHSS and AHRC respectively. Applicants must outline the UK breakdown of costs in the appropriate section of the application form.
Evaluation - In line with current AHRC/IRCHSS practices, all applications will be assessed by evaluators selected by both Councils.
The terms and conditions are available on the IRCHSS website.
Please note this arrangement is separate to the AHRC's standard Research Networks and Workshops scheme.
