Funding Opportunity

Knowledge Catalyst Scheme

Summary

The Knowledge Catalyst scheme supports partnerships between universities and non-academic partners such as business, charities, not-for-profit organisations and some publicly funded bodies. The scheme aims to:

  • exploit the research base in the arts and humanities for commercial and/or cultural gain
  • make such activities accessible to organisations for whom the KTP scheme is not appropriate.

The scheme works by identifying a project that will significantly enhance the operations of the Enterprise Partner, and employing a recent graduate to work on the project, supported by an academic.

The successful projects will create a host of opportunities and benefits:

  • the Enterprise Partners gain significantly as the project is focused around their needs
  • academics benefit through implementing arts and humanities research expertise in a non-academic environment
  • the employee gains through working on an important and innovative project, earning a market-rate salary that reflects this.

Projects of between 3 and 15 months can be supported, and the AHRC will fund 60% of the cost of successful projects.

Information for applicants to AHRC funding schemes

In 2010 the AHRC, along with the other Research Councils, will be transferring its grants processing activities to the new RCUK Shared Services Centre. In addition, the AHRC office will be moving from Bristol to Swindon in June. While the AHRC will do its utmost to minimise the disruption to applicants and others, normal timescales for assessing grant applications will have to be changed to enable these changes to take place as smoothly as possible and for normal business to resume soon after the new systems are in place.

Closing Dates

This scheme has a rolling deadline. The AHRC has taken the decision to extend the recent review of the KC scheme to take into account further developments since the original review process began.

We recognise this may cause some disappointment  but it will allow us to consider the best way forward and to offer our user communities the most appropriate mechanisms for support.

If you have any queries regarding the review please contact p.pothen@ahrc.ac.uk for queries relating to this scheme please see the contact details at the bottom of the page.
