The AHRC has undertaken a review of all its training activities. Part of this review looked at our Doctoral Training and investigated the impact of the Research Training Framework and the research training payments the AHRC has made in support of subject-specific training provision. It also evaluated the Collaborative Research Training (CRT) scheme and whether it has led to sustained systems of research training. The results of this part of the review are published in the summary report below:
Review of Research Training Summary Report
AHRC Training Strategy
In addition to reviewing our current doctoral training, we have considered issues such as how the AHRC’s Knowledge Exchange and International Strategies can be incorporated into its research training activities, how we can best support the training and development of early-career researchers, and the AHRC’s role in encouraging our students to engage in a wider range of training activities, for example activities that encourage the development of team-building, organisational and entrepreneurial skills.
We also recognise the recent policy developments in this area, for example the revised Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and the Researcher Development Statement and Framework. As we take an increasingly strategic approach to the support of arts and humanities research it is vital that we take on board your views regarding our support for skills and training of arts and humanities researchers and we have received very useful feedback from our community through the Future Directions consultation.
Collaborative Research Training scheme
We have already made revisions to the scheme that address some of the recommendations in the report. We are currently looking at how the scheme might support subject-specific training in a more strategic manner in the future.
AHRC Research Training Framework
We intend to publish a restructured and updated framework to be published in 2011 taking into account developments since the framework was originally put in place.
