AHRC SFC Knowledge Exchange Programme: A healthier Scotland

Summary

The AHRC and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) are pleased to announce a call for knowledge exchange projects of mutual strategic interest in the field of health and the environment. AHRC and SFC have agreed to total funding of £500, 000 for this call. The level of funding available for any single project will vary depending on the scope of activities and the extent of the collaboration across the HEI and non HEI partners. For guidance, a maximum AHRC/SFC contribution to any single project will be in the order of £50, 000 per annum for up to two years.

The AHRC SFC Knowledge Exchange Programme aims to:

  • support research based knowledge exchange projects that are driven by the clear and strong involvement of non Higher Education Institution (HEI) partners and which lead to significant outcomes for those organisations as well as for the HEI(s);
  • promote the contribution that the arts and humanities can make to a healthier Scotland, specifically in the context of the environment and health, and;
  • contribute strategically to the Scottish Government’s national objective for a healthier Scotland

Through research based knowledge exchange between arts and humanities and non HEI partners, projects will improve our understanding of health and wellbeing, the implementation of health policy and/or the nature of clinical practice and should aim to create a legacy of further partnership activity.

The following potential project themes are offered for illustration and are not exhaustive:

  • healthcare settings, the effects of architecture and design on access to and perceptions of healthcare, patient satisfaction and clinical efficacy;
  • how urban and rural spaces impact on individual health and wellbeing;
  • healthcare and the virtual world: benefits to clinical practice and the patient experience; and
  • how the language and history of healthcare can inform current approaches and change behaviours.
