AHRC joins 'Money Follows Researcher' scheme

 09 Jan 2009

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) has agreed to participate in the ‘Money Follows Researcher’ scheme which allows researchers who move countries (within Europe) to take with them the remainder of a current research grant.
The original scheme was set up by European Heads of Research Councils (EUROHORCS) as a way of removing barriers to the mobility of European researchers.  Twenty seven national research organisations across Europe are now members of the scheme.

The scheme allows authorised researchers to move into the other organisation´s country to take with them the remainder of a current grant. The grant shall be continued at the new research institution within the original terms and objectives.
Such a move is subject to agreement by AHRC, both research institutions and the counterpart funding organisation and any requests to transfer a grant under this scheme will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.  However, this does allow AHRC researchers a mobility previously unavailable to them.

Caroline Baylon, who is the International Senior Programme Manager at the AHRC said “In view of the importance of the European Research area to UK arts and humanities academics we felt that by joining this scheme we would be acting in the best interests of our award holders.  It will also enable the researchers we fund to be in a better position to transfer their work within Europe.”
