Issue 13 of the AHRC’s PODIUM magazine has now been published and is freely available online as a downloadable PDF.
The purpose of PODIUM is to keep readers of the arts and humanities community informed of the latest news from the AHRC, as well as showcasing the amazing breadth and depth of the research that it funds.
A brand new feature ‘The Big Interview’ launches in this issue with an interview with eminent historian, researcher, broadcaster and author Tristram Hunt. Here Tristram talks exclusively to PODIUM about his new book which investigates the life of Friedrich Engels and the contribution he made to the history of Marxism. Turn to the centre spread to find out how what Engels had to say 150 years ago is just as relevant today in the 21st century.
Pages 16 and 17 has our cover story on the film ‘sleep furiously’, written and directed by former AHRC award-holder Gideon Koppel, which has received praise from both critics and audiences alike.
On pages 12 and 13 readers can learn how an AHRC-funded project is bringing to light the narratives of the Indian Ocean. From ancient sea voyages to plundering pirates; from temperate waters to tidal waves, the project is examining both literary and legal texts to piece together the Ocean’s rich literary history.
Finally, pages six and seven offer a taste of the many exciting and innovative projects funded by the AHRC’s Beyond Text Strategic programme. The £5.5 million initiative, which began in 2007, is exploring forms of communication that go beyond the written record.
