Hidden Histories of Exploration

 29 Oct 2009

Tales of exploration usually involve courageous explorers, but what of those people who supported them? The AHRC-funded Hidden Histories of Exploration exhibition brings to light the roles of indigenous peoples, local guides, interpreters and other intermediaries in exploration, giving visitors the chance to discover more about their remarkable contribution.

At the launch of the exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society in London, Professor Felix Driver talks to the AHRC about how exploration can be thought about differently, the relationship between explorers and their helpers and how the project has managed to unlock the vast archive of materials available.

For more information on the exhibition please see the RGS website.

For more information on the research project please see the AHRC case study.

Running time: 12 Minutes. File size 11mb.
