A gallery for our times an interview with Sandy Nairne

The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) not only holds the most extensive collection of portraits in the world, but it is also an educational environment and a place of research.

The gallery has been recognized by the AHRC as one of 12 Independent Research Organisations (IROs), making it eligible to apply for research grants.  This status is only awarded to organisations that make an enormous contribution to research, both within and outside of the higher education sector.

In the video Sandy Nairne, director of the NPG, talks to the AHRC about the recent successes of the gallery, the importance of its research activities and it's future.

'We have been very pleased to be recognized by the arts and humanities research council as one of the IROs', says Sandy Nairne, 'good research is right at the heart of everything'.
