Demystifying Public Engagement: Gender & Sexuality studies beyond the academy

 14 May 2011

A Postgraduate Training Event Funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council

14th – 15th May 2011, Newcastle University

‘Demystifying Public Engagement’ is a two-day interactive training event for postgraduate students in the arts and humanities whose research is connected by a interest in gender and sexuality. The event aims to both introduce and ‘demystify’ public engagement for attendees, providing doctoral researchers with a toolkit of knowledge and skills to help enable them to realise the public engagement potentials of their research. It will give postgraduates the opportunity to gain experience in presenting their research to a diverse audience of specialists and non-specialists, academic and non-academic attendees.

There will be 10 travel bursaries worth £50 each available to postgraduate speakers. To apply for a bursary, please download and complete the application form available at www.pegsuk.org and send it to the above email address together with your abstract.

In addition to keynote presentations by experienced academics actively involved in public engagement, the event will offer an interactive workshop and Q&A session. Registration for the entire event will be £10, including refreshments, a wine reception and buffet lunch. If you have any questions regarding this even to the initiative, please contact us at demystifying@ncl.ac.uk.

‘Demystifying Public Engagement’ is part of the AHRC-funded initiative PEGS (Public Engagement in Gender & Sexuality). For more information visit www.pegsuk.org.
