In 2006 the Sussex Archaeological Society and the University of Nottingham were awarded a collaborative PhD studentship, one of just five granted by the Arts & Humanities Research Council’s ‘Landscape and Environment’ programme, a high-profile and inter-disciplinary initiative (details at www.landscape.ac.uk). The Sussex Archaeological Society’s 2008 conference, on the theme of ‘Landscape & Environment’, formed part of this wider initiative.

Cutting-edge academic research, from archaeologists, historians, geographers and anthropologists, in poster presentations is presented on a variety of  research themes from the AHRC programme topics include:- 

  • Images, Value and Knowledge  • Time, Space and Narrative  • Settlement and Movement   • Authority and Access.
