This event on 21 September 2011 at Toynbee Hall, London, is the final event of the Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded ‘Building on History’ knowledge transfer project. It will explore the historical interactions between different religions, with special reference to the East End of London as a case study. Historians, religious leaders and community figures will discuss the ways in which awareness of the past might inform our understanding of religious diversity in the present. All those with an interest in historical and contemporary religious diversity are welcome.
Speakers include John Wolffe (Open University), Humayun Ansari (Royal Holloway), David Feldman (Birkbeck), Adrian Newman (Bishop-elect of Stepney), Ben Gidley (COMPAS), Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy (Spanish and Portuguese Jews’ Congregation) and Fiyaz Mughal (Faith Matters).
