An International Inter-Disciplinary Conference
Institute of Geography, University of Edinburgh and National Library of Scotland
7–10 April 2010
This four-day international conference brings together scholarly perspectives from geography, book history, literary studies and the history of science to examine the connections between travel, writing, epistemology and exploration. The conference extends from an AHRC-funded project undertaken by the Institute of Geography and the Centre for the History of the Book in the University of Edinburgh and the National Library of Scotland, using the internationally-significant John Murray Archive.
The Conference is supported by the AHRC, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, The University of Edinburgh, and the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). A limited number of postgraduate bursaries is available.
