The Jim Rose Lecture 2009 is an evening devoted to the work and memory of Jim Rose, co-founder of the Runnymede Trust in 1968. From then until his death in 1999, Jim Rose's contribution and devotion to racial justice and civil rights was unwavering and unbroken.

This year’s lecture on the theme of Belonging, Community and Diaspora will be delivered by Amitav Ghosh. He is one of India’s best-known writers and the winner of several prestigious literary awards. His books include The Circle of Reason, The Calcutta Chromosome and The Glass Palace and his most recent novel, Sea of Poppies, is the first volume of the Ibis Trilogy.

This lecture is hosted in association with the Sociology Department of the LSE, the first Sociology department in the United Kingdom and one of the premier sociology departments in the world.

The lecture is an opportunity to hear about and debate challenging ideas on intercultural relations, to reflect on progress made since Runnymede’s foundation, and to thank all of our friends and supporters. On the evening we will be launching a new online educational project called 'Banglastories' which builds on an AHRC-funded research project about the Bengali diaspora.

Please confirm your attendance by Friday 13 November by emailing your full name and contact details to info@runnymedetrust.org
