The AHRC is one of seven Research Councils in the UK. Each year Research Councils invest around £2.8 billion in research covering the full range of academic disciplines from medical and biological sciences to drama and dance.
The AHRC was incorporated by Royal Charter (pdf 33kb) and established in 2005, replacing the Arts and Humanities Research Board. We are governed by our Council, which is responsible for the overall strategic direction and financial management of the AHRC.
We’re set up to be open and transparent in everything we do. Decisions are made by working closely with all stakeholders, and we aim to be as inclusive as possible.
Members of the Council and its advisory committees and Peer Review Panels adhere to our Code of Practice (pdf 374kb).
The Council is advised by its three advisory committees, as shown in the organisational plan.
