Governance Structure

AHRC Council Membership - The AHRC is governed by its Council, which is responsible for overall strategic direction and financial management.

Research Councils UK - The AHRC is a member of Research Councils UK (RCUK), which is a strategic partnership of the United Kingdom's seven Research Councils.

Chief Executive Officer biography - The AHRC's Chief Executive Officer and Chief Accounting Officer is Professor Andrew Thompson. 

Senior Management Team Members - The Senior Management Team is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the AHRC.

Audit Committee Members - The Audit Committee supports the AHRC Council in undertaking its responsibilities for issues of risk, control, governance, and assurance.

Remuneration Committee Members - The Remuneration Committee is responsible for advising the AHRC Council on matters relating to remuneration and other pay-related matters for senior members of staff.

Advisory Board Members - The Advisory Board advises the AHRC Council on the development of strategies that reflect the Arts and Humanities Research Council's Royal Charter and the challenges facing arts and humanities research. It develops and recommends priorities, programmes, and other initiatives that will deliver the AHRC’s strategies, and monitor and report on their progress.

About the Peer Review College - The AHRC is fundamentally committed to competitive bidding and assessment by process of peer review. Peer Review College (PRC) members form a key part of this system, which is designed to ensure that peer review is conducted with the utmost attention to fairness and transparency, and to the requirements of academic rigour. Management of the PRC is overseen by the Senior Management Team (SMT).

Peer Review panels - The AHRC convenes non-standing panels from the membership of its Peer Review College. Panels meet ad hoc according to the requirements of the scheme for which they provide final grades and ranks.
